How to Choose the Right Safety Gloves for Your Team

Product Guides How to Choose the Right Safety Gloves for Your Team Safety Tips Not all gloves are created equal. This guide walks through the key factors to consider when selecting hand protection for different workplace tasks. Hands are one of the most frequently injured body parts in the workplace. Choosing the right safety gloves for each task is essential for preventing cuts, burns, chemical exposure, and other injuries. **Understand the Hazards** Start by identifying the specific risks your team faces: – Sharp objects and edges → cut-resistant gloves – Hot surfaces or materials → heat-resistant gloves – Chemicals and solvents → chemical-resistant gloves – Electrical work → insulated gloves – Cold environments → thermal gloves – General handling → general-purpose work gloves **Glove Materials** Different materials offer different levels of protection: – Leather — durable, good for general construction and handling – Nitrile — chemical-resistant, good for oils and solvents – Kevlar — cut-resistant, ideal for handling glass and metal – Rubber — electrical insulation and chemical resistance – Cotton — lightweight, breathable, for light-duty tasks **Fit and Comfort** Gloves that do not fit properly can be as dangerous as wearing no gloves at all. Ill-fitting gloves reduce dexterity and grip, increasing the risk of accidents. Ensure gloves are available in multiple sizes and that workers try them before use. **Standards and Ratings** Look for gloves that meet recognised safety standards. Cut-resistant gloves are rated on a scale from A1 to A9, with higher numbers offering greater protection. Match the rating to the risk level of the task. **Maintenance and Replacement** Gloves wear out. Inspect them regularly for signs of damage, and replace them when they no longer provide adequate protection. Never allow workers to use damaged gloves.
